Grants Pass is the county seat of Josephine County, Oregon. Grants Pass is 30 miles northwest of Medford. Grants Pass is well-known for its rafting on the Rogue River and the Oregon Caves National Monument that is nearby. The Rogue River runs through the city.

Trappers and hunters from the Hudson’s Bay Company passed through this area in the 1820’s. Settlers following the Applegate Trail began traveling through the area in the 1840’s. Grants Pass received its name in honor of Ulysses S. Grant. Grants Pass incorporated in 1887.

The 2010 census population was 34,533 people and 14,313 households in Grants Pass. The median age was 39.3 years of age. 47.3% of the population are men and 52.7% are female. Boatnik is an annual event held on Memorial Day weekend. It is a speedboat race and carnival event. Hellgate Jetboat Excursions offers a variety of jet boat trips up and down the scenic part of the Rogue River.

The Rogue Theatre in downtown Grants Pass is a historic theatre that was transformed into a performing arts center. The Rogue Theatre features many different types of performances from local to national acts.

Grants Pass has a variety of local parks and green spaces. Riverside Park in downtown Grants Pass is the home of the Concerts In The Park series during the summer months. Reinhardt Volunteer Park, built by community volunteers, features facilities for many sporting events.

The Grants Pass area has four area high schools including Grants Pass High School, Illinois Valley High School, North Valley High School and Hidden Valley High School. The main campus for Rogue Community College is in Grants Pass.
