I had a unique childhood living in Asia (Mandalay) and Brazil (Rio), given my father’s profession. I later came of age in Prescott, Arizona, where I graduated from High School as a Prescott Badger. I then attended Whitman College, where I focused on literature, politics, and theatre. I took a break from Whitman for a year to work on my French and lived in Tours where I attended the Institut de Touraine. I later attended USC (University of Southern California) in a graduate program in Comparative Literature, where I taught first-year French language classes to undergraduates.

As a person who likes to fix and repair things and mediate problems, I decided, after attending a funeral for a Whitman classmate in Portland, that I loved Oregon and wanted to stay. I decided that law school was the best fit for me, so I attended The Lewis and Clark Law School and worked during and after law school at the downtown firm, then known as Buell, Black and Dupuy, which exposed me to medical malpractice defense and other areas involving complex litigation with a focus on medical matters. After working for over 3 years as a Special Assistant Attorney General assigned to defending SAIF (State Accident Insurance Fund) cases, with a focus on critical injuries (neurosurgical, cardiac, psychiatric), I decided to change hats and represent injured and disabled people who have an uphill fight against the well-funded insurance industry. I have represented hundreds, perhaps thousands of injured Oregonians whose claims have been denied or improperly processed. I deal extensively with complex questions of legal/medical causation, insurance and disability denials. My Social Security Practice is focused on helping hard working people whose claims have been denied after an illness or accident has robbed them of the ability to work.

I have three beautiful daughters in Jacksonville, OR who now live in Maine and Los Angeles, and travel often to spend time with them. I am fortunate to be an attorney who loves what I do, and it never feels like a job.
