ATLANTA — Rent-to-own giant Aaron’s said it has settled a lawsuit brought by a former associate alleging she was sexually harassed by a former co-worker in 2006.
The Atlanta-based company said it settled for $6 million – much less than an earlier verdict that was turned back by the court.
The female employee won the initial lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, resulting in a verdict awarding damages of about $95 million. The award exceeded the maximum allowed by $50 million and subsequently was reduced to $39.8 million last year.In a separate criminal legal proceeding in September 2011, the former co-worker was acquitted of all charges.
